Composition for beginners by PinkFireFly Composition for beginners by PinkFireFly
Here's a tutorial of me explaining something about composition in photography.

This is how I would mainly do my composition, but someone else might disagree, and I have no problem with that, these are just my own artistic opinions :)

This is actually quite helpful to know for painting, not just photography. Many of the same rules apply

I agree, many of the same rules apply indeed. In fact, I was really into photography for two straight years that I did almost nothing about my own drawing skills. Once I drew again for the first time in a while, my skills had definitely improved - all because of my photography.

Thank you for the tutorial. While majority of things there were well known to me, I had no idea about "rule of thirds". You did explained it well and gave me an inspiration, so next time I will go on my walk shooting close ups of dead leafs, I will try to use rule of thirds.

really interesting though i already learnt a lot about composition.
another trick would be to put the horizont or any other straight line in your picture on one of the "rule of third's" lines. :D don't know if you know that already but i thought it might fit in here

You illustrate very good the difference between good composition and "bad" composition. the comparison between both makes it very clear to me
