I agree, many of the same rules apply indeed. In fact, I was really into photography for two straight years that I did almost nothing about my own drawing skills. Once I drew again for the first time in a while, my skills had definitely improved - all because of my photography.
Thank you for the tutorial. While majority of things there were well known to me, I had no idea about "rule of thirds". You did explained it well and gave me an inspiration, so next time I will go on my walk shooting close ups of dead leafs, I will try to use rule of thirds.
really interesting though i already learnt a lot about composition. another trick would be to put the horizont or any other straight line in your picture on one of the "rule of third's" lines. don't know if you know that already but i thought it might fit in here
